My name is Emily Ulrich and I am a junior at the University of Michigan majoring in Biology and minoring in Writing. Wow I cannot count how many times I've opened with that line. Sometimes in college it feels like your major begins to be what defines you, especially when the first thing people ask about you is what you're studying. So let's try this again... hello, my name is Emily Ulrich and I am a Catholic college student who loves jumping off cliffs, skiing in the rockies and trying new food.

For my final project I decided to write about one of my favorite activities, stepping outside of your comfort zone. I try to do it as often as I can, and I'm intrigued about what it is that pushes people to try something new. For me, it was always about having a new memory or a new story to tell at parties, but taking those steps outside of my comfort zones were more important than I ever thought.
